Mary Olive Woods Scholarships Awarded

MACOMB, IL – Two Western Illinois University students have been awarded the Mary Olive Woods Academic Excellence Scholarships for the 2014-15 academic year.

Jed Hill, a senior religious studies and history double major from Nauvoo, IL, and Riley Addington, a junior philosophy major with a pre-law option from Denver, CO, were each awarded a $6,000 scholarship.

For a student to be considered for the scholarships, they must be a full-time WIU student with a declared major in religious studies and enrolled in a philosophy course or a declared major in philosophy and enrolled in a religious studies course. The students must also have a grade point average of at least 3.5 and have a minimum of 30 hours of coursework completed.

Hill will graduate in Spring 2015 and plans to attend graduate school with the intention of pursuing an academic career in religious studies. He is married to Brielle Hill, and they have four children.

Addington is minoring in professional writing. He is involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities and has been a resident assistant for the past two years. He is president of the Student Philosophical Association and the Mock Trial Team and is involved with Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Alpha Delta.

After graduating from WIU, he plans to get a law degree and eventually work as a public defender.
