MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Orchestra will host guest artist Stephan Schardt, a German violinist, from Oct. 13-23 on the Macomb campus.

According to Orchestra Director Richard Hughey, Schardt will perform with the WIU Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 in the COFAC Recital Hall. During the concert, they will play the "Violin Concerto No. 5 in D Major" of Josef Mysliveček, the "Bohemian Mozart."

Schardt is an accomplished solo and chamber musician, having served as concertmaster of Musica Antiqua Köln from 2000-06, and was recently awarded an Echo Prize for his CD of violin sonatas of Georg Philipp Telemann. The Echo Prize in Germany is the equivalent of the Grammy Award in the United States.

Hughey said Schardt's visit is a "fantastic opportunity for our students at Western to have the chance to work with such a wonderful world-class artist."

Schardt will also teach WIU violin and string students in lessons and master classes.
