MACOMB, IL – Knoxville High School senior Liam Buchanan, of Maquon, IL, has been selected for Western Illinois University's Centennial Honors Scholarship, which awards $10,000 per year to academically high-achieving students.

High school students with an ACT score of 30 or higher and a grade point average of 3.0 or higher are eligible for the scholarship.

Buchanan said he expects to major in electrical engineering at Western.

"Western was of high consideration due to its size and location," he said. "One of the deciding factors was its high job placement rates. Western is a high-ranking midwestern university."

After graduation, Buchanan would like to continue on to graduate school or find a job in his field of study.

In high school, Buchanan was involved in National Honor Society, 4-H, scholastic bowl, drama club, tutoring, Spanish club and his church's youth group.
