MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University and the WIU Alumni Association will celebrate Purple and Gold Day 2015 with 15 simultaneous events around the world on Friday, April 24. The final five of 15 locations for the celebration have been announced by the Alumni Association.

The initial five locations of Macomb; Chicago, IL; Moline, IL; St. Louis, MO, and South Korea were announced in July, and in August, Peoria; Naperville, IL; Denver, CO; Phoenix, AZ, and Washington, DC were added. In September, the WIU Alumni Association announced the addition of Dallas, TX; Orlando, FL; Seattle, WA; Los Angeles, CA, and Northbrook, IL.

Events at each location will include an evening social with food and drinks, along with a message from WIU streamed live to all 15 locations.

The tradition of celebrating Purple and Gold Day at Western began on April 24, 2000, with the close of the University's 100-year celebration. The date in 2000 marked the 100-year anniversary of the day in 1899 when the Illinois Legislature approved the creation of what would become WIU.

Members of the WIU community are being encouraged to wear purple and gold that day to show school spirit and to attend one of the events in a location nearest you.
