MACOMB, IL — One of the emergency-management professionals in charge of how Walgreen's Corp. deals with emergency-management concerns will be on the Western Illinois University campus today (Tuesday, Oct. 28).

According to WIU Emergency Management (EM) Program Assistant Professor Jack Rozdilsky, Western's EM program is hosting Walgreen's Preparedness and Response Manager Jim Williams, who will be talking about the organization's emergency-management practices. He will speak at 2:30 p.m. in Horrabin Hall, room 78.

"Just as the public sector has emergency managers operating on behalf of governments, private sector corporations also employ individuals with emergency-management skills," Rozdilsky said. "In the corporate world, these jobs go by names like 'business continuity specialist' or 'crisis management specialist.' These private sector emergency-management professionals assist companies in dealing with issues ranging from helping in the recovery of retail stores destroyed by tornadoes, to dealing with crises related to public misperceptions of a company's reputation."

According to Rozdilsky, WIU emergency-management students are encouraged to explore private sector opportunities, and Williams' presentation will provide an example of the types of opportunities available.

"We are honored that a skilled professional such as Mr. Williams can bring this Fortune 30 Company's perspective on emergency management to our students. In the coming years, private sector emergency management will be a growing field of employment for our graduates," he added.
