MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University Counseling Center Director Jim DiTulio has been named the director of the year by the American College Counseling Association.

The award was presented at the association's annual conference Oct. 1-4 in San Antonio, TX.

"I was quite surprised, shocked is a better word, to receive this national recognition," said DiTulio. "I am grateful for working with such a dedicated staff who makes sure our students receive the support and assistance they need. They are the ones who deserve the recognition."

DiTulio has been the director of the University's Counseling Center since 1998. He began his work at WIU in 1989 as a staff counselor and was promoted to associate director in 1995. Before coming to Western, DiTulio was the director of Counseling Services at Edgewood College in Madison, WI.

DiTulio earned his bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology and his master's degree in counseling with a college student personnel emphasis from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He is also a licensed clinical professional counselor in Illinois.
