MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University's School of Nursing has been recognized among the top 50 online RN to BSN programs in the nation by

According to, the list was compiled based upon data from the National Center for Education Statistics, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, U.S.News & World Report, program websites, as well as faculty, technology, and student support, accreditation and cost.

Western's RN to BSN program, which was ranked 27th among the top 50 programs, moved completely online in Fall 2014 to accommodate the schedules of nurses who want to further their education while still working.

The nursing program began at Western in 2008, and the first cohort of students graduated in December 2010. The program offers students a four-year program that moves from pre-nursing to a pre-licensure bachelor's degree in nursing and the online program that allows RNs to receive their bachelor's degrees.

The department boasts a 100 percent job placement rate after graduation, and WIU students who take the National Council Licensure Exam have a 90 percent pass rate. The school received its accreditation status in Fall 2010 as a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)-Accredited Nursing Baccalaureate Degree Program. The CCNE is the accrediting body for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), of which Western is a member.

Western Illinois University's School of Nursing program for pre-licensure students is one of only two programs accredited by nursing within a 50-mile radius: the other is Graham Hospital School of Nursing in Canton (IL), which is accredited by the National League for Nursing (NLN).
