MACOMB, IL -- Suzanne Woodward, branch executive director, Mt. Sterling YMCA, has been named the director of development for the Western Illinois University Libraries, effective Dec. 1, according to Dean of Libraries Michael Lorenzen.

Woodward has served in her current position at the Mt. Sterling YMCA since November 2003. During her tenure at the YMCA, she generated more than a 400 percent growth in campaign funds over nine years, and increased campaign volunteer participation. In addition to development duties, Woodward oversaw the facility, equipment and grounds, as well as programs and marketing. From 2004 to 2013, she assisted in the increase of program participants from 770 to 7,600. Prior to her position at the Mt. Sterling YMCA, Woodward was a career/academic counselor at John Wood Community College in Quincy (1999-2003) and worked in the Office of Career Services at MacMurray College in Jacksonville (1998-1999).

She is a member of the Brown County Women's Leadership Group and the Action Brown County Health and Education Committee and former chair of the Brown County Education Advisory Committee.

Woodward received her master's degree from Western and her bachelor's degree from Illinois State University.

"I am excited that Suzanne is coming to work with University Libraries," Lorenzen noted. "I believe her experience will allow the Libraries to further connect with our donors and potential donors. The Libraries provides so much to the campus and local community and Suzanne will help showcase all that we offer."

The director of development works with the Libraries dean to establish long-range objectives for development activities, and assists the Libraries in seeking external funding. The development director leads and directs the planning and implementation of development activities as they relate to the priorities of the comprehensive campaign, and directs the implementation of activities established by the Library Atrium Society, while working with the outreach librarian on marketing and special projects. The director also provides stewardship and cultivation to WIU donors and prospects.
