MACOMB - On Dec. 11-12 the Western Illinois University School of Music will present "The World Is Round," (a children's tale told in song) a chamber opera with libretto and original music by WIU Professor of music theory and composition Paul Paccione. The opera is based on a children's book by the 20th century American writer Gertrude Stein.

Inspired by the innocence and overwhelming sense of fun and playfulness of Stein's language, the opera is an exploration of the everlasting moods and wonderments of childhood. The cast includes both School of Music faculty and students, accompanied by the University Chamber Orchestra.

The play is directed by Terry Chasteen.

Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. in Hainline Theatre. Admission is $10 for the general public, $8 for seniors/youth and WIU employees. Admission is free for WIU students with a valid I.D. Tickets can be purchased at Hainline Theatre Box Office (309) 298-2900.
