MACOMB, IL — Western Illinois University Executive Director of the School of Distance Learning, International Studies and Outreach Executive Director Richard Carter; Xitong "Rebecca" Chen, a sophomore from Shanghai, China, who is majoring in art and journalism; Western President Jack Thomas; and Jenny Knavel, professor in WIU's art department, pose for a photo with the portrait Chen created of President Thomas this fall in an art class taught by Knavel.

Before Chen enrolled at Western, she met Carter and President Thomas in China while they were visiting there. Her meeting with them helped her decide to attend Western.
