MACOMB, IL – Lake Park High School senior Ryan Smith, of Itasca, IL, has been selected for Western Illinois University's Centennial Honors Scholarship, which awards $10,000 per year to academically high-achieving students.

High school students with an ACT score of 30 or higher and a grade point average of 3.0 or higher are eligible for the scholarship.

Smith said he expects to study computer science, business and math at Western.

"Western Illinois University has provided me with numerous opportunities to contact administrative support," Smith said. "Their constant helpful and motivating faculty and peers offer students a new level of education and study. I chose Western because of the variation of available majors, as well as its friendly and academically-balanced environment."

After graduation, Smith hopes to work at Google or become a criminal investigator.
