Thomas named WIU Employee of the Month

MACOMB, IL - - Tammy Thomas, staff secretary and office manager for the Western Illinois University Office of Public Safety has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for January.

Thomas was hired in October 1985 as a secretary II in the WIU School of Graduate Studies Dean's office. In February 1986, she was promoted to secretary III in the Office of Public Safety, and in November that year, she was promoted again to secretary IV. In February 1989, Thomas was reclassified as the staff secretary and office manager for the Office of Public Safety and currently holds this position.

"Tammy shows enthusiasm and outstanding job performance in carrying out her duties, as well as goes above and beyond her job requirements to assist others within her division," said her nominator.

Thomas also received a letter from a customer stating she is always pleasant, proficient, efficient and eager to help.

"Tammy's willingness to be flexible, helpful and proficient in her job duties makes the experience of working with her great," her nominator added.

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Alisha Barnett at AA-Barnett@wiu.edu.
