MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University students are encouraged to make their academic advising appointments early so they can register for Summer/Fall 2015 during the preregistration period in April.

Students must meet with their academic advisors before they can register, so it is imperative that students have advising appointments prior to registration dates in April. According to the WIU Council of Academic Advisors, this will help the students stand the best chance of being able to register on time and get the courses they need to graduate.

"Many times students have other registration encumbrances, such as billing holds or immunization encumbrances, so they assume they should wait until those are cleared to meet with their advisors. However, some advisors' appointment schedules are booked weeks in advance, so it is best to get your advising appointment taken care of as soon as possible in order to register as soon as the encumbrances are taken care of," said Ellen Poulter, academic advisor in WIU's Department of English and Journalism.

Students can find their Spring 2015 advance registration appointments on the STARS registration screen.

A general summary of registration assignment periods for undergraduate students includes:

Seniors: April 3, 6, 7, 8, 9
Juniors: April 8, 9, 10, 13
