Concerto/Aria/Composition Concert March 6

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University School of Music (SOM) will sponsor its annual Concerto Concert, featuring WIU student winners of the annual SOM Concerto/Aria/Composition Competition, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 6 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall.

This competition is held in stages during fall semester. The winners are selected by a panel of external judges and represent some of the finest musicians in the WIU School of Music. The winners will perform with the WIU Symphony Orchestra at the Concerto Concert.

Winners include: Matthew Goulding (Lansing, IL) and Nina Blaszka (Washington, NJ) playing the "Concerto in F Major for 2 Oboes," composed by Albinoni, as well as "Strings" and "Continuo." Joseph Valdes (Manila, Philippines) will play the first movement of the "Khachaturian Violin Concerto," and Amy Broadbent (Lansing, IL) will play the first movement of the "Grieg Piano Concerto." Adam Stombres (St. Charles, IL) was the winner in the composition field. His composition, "Reflecting Waves," will be performed.

The WIU Symphony Orchestra will conclude the concert with a performance of the "Symphony No. 3" of Jean Sibelius. WIU Director of Orchestral Activities Richard Hughey will conduct.
