WIU Announces #WIUGroupSelfie Contest

MACOMB, IL - - In preparation and celebration of the April 24 Purple & Gold Day 2015, Western Illinois University will hold a photo contest from Monday, March 23 - Sunday, April 26.

Western Illinois University faculty, staff, students and alumni are invited to submit photos in the #WIUGroupSelfie Contest for the chance to win an iPad mini and other weekly prizes. Photos will be judged for the week in which they are entered.

To enter a photo in the contest, participants must use the #WIUGroupSelfie hashtag on one of the following social media outlets (Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook), and can also be submitted via e-mail at wiunews@wiu.edu.

The weekly categories for this contest are:

Leatherneck Families-
Monday, March 23-Sunday, March 29: In celebration of Moms' Weekend, post a photo of how you and your family show your WIU Pride.

Leatherneck Learning-
Monday, March 30-Sunday April 5: Show us how WIU has helped you and your fellow Leathernecks study and/or work.

Leatherneck Life-
Monday, April 6- Sunday, April 12: Show us how you live as a Leatherneck each day—on or off campus, at home or at work.

Rec for ‘Necks-
Monday, April 13-Sunday, April 19: How do you relax after a long day of being a Leatherneck?

Purple & Gold Day Pride-
Monday, April 20-Sunday, April 26: How much purple and gold can you fit into a group selfie?

Prizes will be awarded to the individual who submits the photo.

Photo Contest Rules:

1. Photo must contain two or more WIU faculty, staff, students or alumni, to go along with the "group selfie" theme.

2. Photos cannot contain any reference to alcohol or drug use; profane/inappropriate gestures; inappropriate attire (e.g., no swimsuit photos or clothing that bears inappropriate logos). These photos will be discarded.

3. By entering a photo, participants give WIU, its assigns, licensees and legal representatives the irrevocable right to use the name and photographic image in all forms of media (including the Internet), and participants waive any right to inspect or approve the finished version(s).

4. Participants are required to use #WIUGroupSelfie in the description for the photo to be entered in the contest.
(For Facebook submitted photos, tag Western Illinois University in the photo, as well as using the #WIUGroupSelfie).

5. Each week, photo submissions will be due Sunday night by midnight. The photos will be judged the following Monday morning, and winners will be announced each Monday (of the five-week period) by midnight.

At the end of the five-week period, one photographer will be chosen the winner of an iPad.

Note: It is recommended that the individual submitting the photo follow the Western Illinois University Instagram, Twitter or Facebook page so that the contest judges can more easily find and identify the photo.
