WIU, Carl Sandburg College Sign Honors Agreement

MACOMB, IL – Honors students at Carl Sandburg College will have the opportunity to continue their honors-level curriculum at Western Illinois University and graduate with University Honors, following the signing of an honors articulation agreement today (March 25) between the two institutions.

The agreement allows Carl Sandburg College honors students to transfer to Western's Centennial Honors College following their individual degree completion at Sandburg. All honors coursework at Carl Sandburg College will transfer hour-for-hour toward the general honors requirements in WIU's honors college and students who meet the Honors College criteria will now graduate with the designation of University Honors.

"Carl Sandburg College and Western Illinois University have had a long-standing partnership in providing educational opportunities to students from west central Illinois. The new agreement provides yet another opportunity for those exceptional Sandburg students to continue their education and obtain bachelor's degrees, with honors, from WIU," noted WIU President Jack Thomas. "We look forward to welcoming Carl Sandburg's honor students into our outstanding Centennial Honors College."

The Honors Program at Carl Sandburg College provides qualified students with advanced study related to general education courses and/or areas of concentration or specialization. Western's Centennial Honors College provides an enriched academic curriculum and opportunities for leadership, professional growth, service learning, personal interaction with WIU's top professors and specialized courses. The Honors College works with departments and areas to provide opportunities for in-depth study, research and professional development for its students.

"The Honors Program at WIU is an excellent program for those students who want the opportunity to excel both academically and intellectually."
