Board Approves Cost Guarantee Increase for New Students

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees approved a 1.72 percent increase in the University's Cost Guarantee (all costs: tuition, fees and room and board) for new undergraduate and a 1.69 percent increase for new graduate students entering the WIU-Macomb campus in Fall 2015 at its meeting today (March 27).

Undergraduate tuition, fees and room and board are guaranteed for four years, so students entering in Fall 2015 will not see any change in their total costs during their enrollment. Last year's all-costs increase was 2.99 percent.

In Fall 2015, students entering Western's Macomb campus will be charged $8,805 in annual tuition, based on 15 hours per semester at a $293.50 per credit hour rate ($5.76 more than the Fall 2014 tuition rate). Graduate tuition for Macomb campus students will be $7,767.36, based on 24 credit hours per year ($323.64 per credit hour compared to $317.31 in Fall 2014).

Yearly room and board increases for entering students will be $130 more per year for double occupancy ($9,580 compared to $9,450 for Fall 2014). Fees for incoming Western-Macomb students will increase by $53.10 for incoming students with a 15-hour schedule per semester ($2,703.60 per year beginning Fall 2015).

Quad Cities undergraduate students will see an all-costs increase of 1.98 percent. Undergraduate students entering Western's Quad Cities campus in Fall 2015 will be charged $8,805 in annual tuition, based on 15 hours per semester at a $293.50 per credit hour rate. Graduate tuition for WIU-QC students entering in Fall 2015 will be $7,767.36, based on 24 credit hours per year. The fees for new WIU-Quad Cities undergraduate students with a 15-hour schedule per semester will increase by $112.90 per year ($740.40 per year in Fall 2015).

The Board also approved the annual rate of $1,380 for student health insurance; approved a revision to the Employee Benefits Parental Leave Policy; and approved a 10-year $2.3 million contract with Adidas for athletic apparel and sponsorship.

In addition, the Board approved the nomination of WIU Alumnus and Illinois Sen. Kirk Dillard, a partner in Locke Lord LLP in Chicago, as the December 2015 Honorary Doctorate recipient.
