MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of Human Resources has released the names of the Civil Service recognition and service award winners for 2015.

Administrative Information Management Systems Manager Stacie Hunt has been chosen for the Civil Service Recognition and Service – Distinguished Service Award, and Building Service Supervisor Kirk Hare, of Building Services-Facilities Management at Western, has been named the winner of the Civil Service Community Service Award. Hunt and Hare will be presented with their awards during the Human Resources Employee Recognition Ceremony Tuesday, April 28.

The Distinguished Service Award acknowledges initiative, innovation and/or dedication to service at Western and is a reflection of one or more of the University's core values. The Civil Service employee must have at least three years of employment at Western to be eligible for the award.

One of Hunt's nominators said she is "key to both keeping the University running, and also helping to create new and innovative ways to better serve students."
Another nominator said, "her knowledge of business processes and data in multiple departments is extensive and many people turn to her for her expertise."

"Because Stacie works with so many departments on campus, she is pulled in many directions," her nominator said. "This does not prevent her from completing tasks though; she rarely (if ever) says no to a project that could help students and employees. Stacie works diligently for the benefit of the University community and deserves recognition for her outstanding service."

The Community Service Award recognizes exemplary volunteerism and/or outstanding service to any non-profit company and is a reflection of one or more of Western's core values.

In addition to his duties at WIU, Hare is a longtime volunteer with numerous organizations in the area.

"His philanthropy directly impacts the health and welfare of children, adults and senior citizens," his nominator said. Kirk goes the extra mile when volunteering by holding board and leadership positions, many which take all of his free time. It takes a special person to don a six-foot rabbit costume and visit the nursing homes each Easter, but Kirk does it with passion and even took his girls along when they were younger."

Additionally, Hare has been a McDonough County American Red Cross CPR and first aid instructor since 1995, certifying over 500 people in those 20 years. He has also been president and a board member and coach for the McDonough County Girls Softball League, a board member for the Macomb Bomber Booster Club and performs maintenance work at a local non-profit daycare center, as well as helping the center build its nationally-certified outdoor natural classroom.

Hunt and Hare will each receive $250 for their honors.
