Sigma Chi Plans Derby Days

MACOMB, IL – The Sigma Chi fraternity at Western Illinois University will hold its Derby Days Monday-Thursday, April 27-30.

The fraternity's annual philanthropic event helps fundraise for the Huntsman Cancer Institute, which studies and treats cancer at a molecular level.

Sigma Chi at WIU has already raised nearly $2,000 for the institute and 100 percent of the money raised benefits the charity. The team fee for participation is $75, and Derby Days shirts will be available for $16 each.

The schedule for the four-day event includes:

All Week:

• Snap a Sig on Twitter. Take a photo with a Sigma Chi brother and post it on Twitter. Tag @SigmaChi_WIU and hashtag #DerbyDays2015 and group's logo.

• Derby Hat: All week brothers will be wearing Sigma Chi Derby hats - steal them from brothers for points.

• DerbyChallenge.org - The team that raises the most money online will win this event. The fraternity has set a goal of $1,000 for each team to raise.

Tuesday April 28:

• Derby Darling Beauty Pageant at 6 p.m. at Café Aroma. Tickets are $3 in advance, $5 at the door - Murals from the Derby Days art competition will be judged during this event.

Wednesday April 29:

• Powder Puff Tournament at 6 p.m. at Hanson Field – "Splash a Sig" will be going on as well off to the side of the football games. Derby Days winners will be awarded at the conclusion of the tournament.
