Twelfth Issue of Western Illinois Magazine Now Available

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University students have produced the Spring/Summer 2015 issue of Western Illinois Magazine, a free, bi-annual publication that showcases interesting people, places and things in the Western Illinois region.

Stories in new issue include:

• Bottle for the Ages: The story of Collinsville's giant ketchup bottle

• Carp Attack! A look at the invasion of Asian carp in Illinois

• Cat Calling: Why do some men act that way?

• A Mascot by Another Other Name: Illinois has some pretty strange high school mascot names

• Jack Thomas Cultivates WIU: Profile of the president of Western Illinois University

• Tastes of St. Louis: An overview of culinary delights only offered in St. Louis, MO

• Murder He Writes - A profile of Muscatine mystery writer Max Allan Collins

• Military Life Means Soldiering On: The hardships and challenges of today's military life

• Much to Like at the Iron Spike: A look at Galesburg's own brewpub

• Photo essay of the Chicago Botanical Gardens

• Soul Food in Macomb: A personal essay on the difficulties of finding genuine soul food in a small town.

• Peoria's Riverfront Museum: A feature on Peoria's newest museum

The 32-page, student-run magazine is produced once each semester. The editor-in-chief for the Spring/Summer 2015 issue is Carlos Williamson, a senior journalism major from Bolingbrook, IL. Senior communication major Mary Friday, of Macomb, IL, and senior fashion merchandising major Katie Gassmann, of Collinsville, IL, served as co-art directors.
