MOLINE, IL – Bea Brasel, a publicity-promotion specialist for the WQPT-TV station on the Western Illinois University Quad Cities campus has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for June.

Brasel started her employment with WQPT through Blackhawk College in February 2002. Her employment transitioned to a publicity-promotion specialist in May 2010, when WIU acquired WQPT operations. She currently holds this position.

According to Brasel's nominator, she is always willing to lend a hand, "even if it is outside her written job description."

"She coordinated logistics for a QC-campus grand opening celebration, making sure the guests had ice cold water available and mapped out the event," the nominator said. "She takes initiative to get things done. She actively participates in University events and committees, including graduation, the grand opening and as an RPTA mentor, as well as frequently attending faculty lectures, campus forums and many other events. She is proud of Western's programs and encourages students to further their education here."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Alisha Looney at AA-Looney@wiu.edu.
