MACOMB, IL — As of 2014, the Western Illinois University Environmental Summit has a new name and wider focus as those who sponsor it, plan it and are involved with it celebrate its 12th year on campus in Spring 2016.

According to Timothy Collins, assistant director of the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs (IIRA) at WIU, the summit, now called the "Prairie Lands Environmental Summit," will continue the tradition of highlighting activities that help improve the region's quality of life.

The 12th annual event is set for Wednesday, March 30, and the theme is: "Environment: A Foundation for Social Responsibility." The event, which is set to start at 10 a.m., will be comprised of short presentations and will run into the afternoon hours.
