MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Community Art Program will be presented on Sundays from Oct. 25-Nov. 15 at the West Central Illinois Arts Center and Garwood Hall, on the WIU campus.

The free program is for students in first through eighth grades. Classes will be held Oct. 25, Nov. 1, Nov. 8 and Nov. 15 from 1-2:30 p.m. and from 3-4:30 p.m.

First and Second Grades
Aliens, Astronauts and Rockets - Using space as a theme, students will be able to study and explore key art concepts, such as perspective, dimensions and composition. The students will be able to further discover these concepts through fun art projects, such as creating scratch art space scene, astronaut self-portraits, clay aliens and splatter paint galaxies.

Third and Fourth Grades
Students will have the opportunity to explore design through the production of 3-D art projects. The class will examine artists like Van Gogh and architects like Frank Lloyd Wright in order to gain a better understanding of design and structure. Activities including house sculptures, room layout and tree house design will give young artists an opportunity to design their dream architectural settings.

Fifth - Eighth Grades
With traditional art, drawing or painting students will be able to explore new paths for art besides norm. Yarn painting, glass mosaics, glass etching, and printmaking will show different ways of making art while pushing the students outside their creative box.
