Celebration in Memory of School of Music Director Bart Shanklin

MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University School of Music and College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) will celebrate the life of Bart Shanklin Tuesday, Nov. 10. Shanklin, the director of the School of Music, passed away Oct. 25 in Iowa City.

Students and faculty from the School of Music will present a concert in COFAC Recital Hall from 2-2:45 p.m. Nov. 10. The celebration concert will feature performances by University Singers, Concert Choir, Madrigal Singers, the LaMoine Brass Quintet and School of Music Professor Terry Chasteen. A reception will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the University Art Gallery.

Shanklin had served as the director of the School of Music since July 2005. He was named the school's first director upon the renaming of the department to the School of Music. He directed Western's comprehensive curriculum with bachelor degree programs in applied music, including instrumental performance, vocal performance, jazz studies and composition; as well as in music education, music therapy and music business and graduate programs.
