MACOMB, IL — Western Illinois University students Kelsey Chandler (Flossmoor, IL) and Raquel Carranza (Chicago, IL) have been chosen as the 2015-16 recipients of the William H. and Eva Little Graham Libraries' Student Assistant Scholarship. Chandler and Carranza, both student employees at University Libraries, will each receive the $500 scholarship for the Spring 2016 semester. The scholarship is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated excellence in the performance of their assignments, and the funds are applied to the selected students' tuition.

Chandler is a sophomore law enforcement and justice administration major who has worked in University Libraries' administrative office since August 2014. Chandler was listed on the WIU Dean's List last year and is also a member of the Inter-Hall Council. Her nominator and current supervisor, Mary Day, called Chandler "an extremely conscientious, reliable and trustworthy person."

"I am very grateful to have received this award, and I would like to express my sincere gratitude to those who donate to this scholarship," Chandler said.

Carranza is a junior accounting major who has worked in University Libraries' access services department since August 2014. Her nominator, Greg Phelps, unit coordinator for access services, called Carranza "dependable and punctual."

"I never have to worry about projects or jobs she completes for our unit. Raquel has found the attention to detail required for her duties in the library is helping to prepare her for her future job as an auditor," he added.

"I appreciate everyone who has contributed to this scholarship, which will help me pay for my educational expenses," Carranza said.

"We are delighted to have this assistance available for these two worthy individuals," noted University Libraries Dean Michael Lorenzen.
