Next month, several Western Illinois University departments and community organizations will come together to host, "Giving Back for the Holidays: The Power of Blood." Set for Thursday, Dec. 3 at the WIU Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center, the event will include a blood drive, confidential HIV/AIDS testing, blood typing services, blood glucose screening services and awareness tables.

WIU's "Giving Back for Holidays: Power of Blood" Event Set for Dec. 3

MACOMB, IL — Next month, several Western Illinois University departments and community organizations will come together to host, "Giving Back for the Holidays: The Power of Blood." Set for Thursday, Dec. 3 at the WIU Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center, the event will include a blood drive, confidential HIV/AIDS testing, blood typing services, blood glucose screening services and awareness tables.

The schedule for the event includes:

  • 11 a.m.-4 p.m. — HIV/AID testing conducted by Heart of Illinois HIV/AIDS Center
  • noon-5 p.m. — Blood drive, American Red Cross. For an appointment call 800-RED-CROSS (800-733-2767) or visit www.redcrossblood.org.
  • 11 a.m.-5 p.m. — Blood typing services, Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center
  • 3-6 p.m. — Blood glucose screening, Bella Hearst Diabetes Institute/WIU dietetics students
  • 3-6 p.m. — Awareness Tables

"Giving Back for the Holidays: The Power of Blood" is endorsed by and funded, in part, through a WIU Substance Abuse Prevention/Education Grant and is sponsored by the following:

  • Beu Health Center/Students T.A.L.K. Peer Educators;
  • Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Resource Center;
  • WIU School of Nursing;
  • Bella Hearst Institute/WIU dietetics program;
  • Black Student Association;
  • Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center;
  • American Red Cross;
  • Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center;
  • Heart of Illinois HIV/AIDS Center; and
  • WIU Employee Wellness committee.
