MACOMB, IL – Grapevine High School senior Madison Chao, of Colleyville, TX, has been selected for Western Illinois University's Centennial Honors Scholarship, which awards $10,000 per year to academically high-achieving students.

High school students with an ACT score of 30 or higher and a grade point average of 3.0 or higher are eligible for the scholarship.

Chao hopes to major in forensic chemistry at Western.

She said she chose Western after being recruited for the University's swim team.

"Coach Naumann and my future teammates made me feel at home when I visited campus, and I believe I can significantly contribute to WIU's swimming success, while continuing to develop as an athlete and a person," said Chao. "WIU offers a variety of majors and is especially known for its signature programs. Western's Commitment scholarships make tuition very affordable."

In high school, Chao participated in varsity swimming and water polo, National Honor Society, Mid-Cities Arlington club swimming and volunteer coaching for the Southlake Stingrays youth swim team.

After graduation, Chao hopes to earn a master's degree through the University's integrated BS/MS chemistry program and then pursue a career in forensic science.
