WIU's housing program received numerous honors at a weekend conference.

WIU Housing Program Honored at Annual Conference

MACOMB, IL – A group of Western Illinois University students attended the Illinois Residence Hall Association's annual conference Friday-Sunday, Feb. 19-21 in Joliet (IL) and returned home with numerous awards for the University's housing programs.

The WIU conference delegation was led by students Christie Millay, a senior elementary education major from Oak Lawn (IL) and Kaylee McAllister, a senior sociology major from New Holland, IL.

WIU won the following awards at the conference:

• Program of the Year: Club Wetzel

• The Carlene Verstraete Outstanding Service Award (VOSA): Alexis Hill, a senior, sociology major from Naperville (IL)

• President of the Year: Ryan Zurek, a junior physics major from Lisle (IL)

• Advisor of the Year: Assistant Director of Residence Life for Leadership and Development Justin Schuch

WIU was also recognized as having the following during the conference:

• Two top 10 program awards

• A four-year service pin: McAllister

WIU students attending the weekend conference also included Ja'Khari Person, a freshman apparel and textile merchandising major from Orland Hills (IL); Jasmine Gray, a sophomore psychology major from Fairview Heights (IL); Milly Gualandri, a sophomore law enforcement and justice administration (LEJA) major from Ottawa (IL); Robert Searls, a freshman fire protection services major from Dekalb (IL); Killian Tracey, a freshman forensic chemistry major from Geneva (IL); Colton Kurtz, a junior history major from Galesburg; Sean Sutherland, a sophomore LEJA major from Chicago (IL); Korey Hughes, a freshman pre-elementary education major from Carpentersville (IL); John Jay, a freshman pre-business supply chain management major from Washburn (IL) and Trenton Schmit, a freshman political science major from Yorkville (IL).
