Biology Research Symposium, April 14-15

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of Biological Sciences and RISE@WIU will sponsor the 14th annual Biology Research Symposium Thursday-Friday, April 14-15 in Waggoner Hall.

Events begin at noon Thursday, with oral presentations running until 3 p.m. in Waggoner Hall, room 378. From 3-4:45 p.m. there will be poster presentations and a dessert competition on the third floor of Waggoner Hall, followed by a group picture of participants on the first floor of Waggoner Hall.

From 9 a.m.-noon Friday, oral presentations will be held in Waggoner Hall, room 378, followed by the event's plenary speaker, Richard Powell, who will present, "Chemical Diversity in Plants and Plant Endophytes."

Powell received his bachelor's and master's degrees in chemistry from WIU. He has held numerous scientific positions throughout his career, including working for the USDA Agricultural Research Service at the Northern Regional Research Laboratory. He has also authored numerous articles and book chapters and has been a 53-year member of the American Chemical Society.

An award ceremony and department potluck lunch from 1-2 p.m. will wrap up the event.
