MACOMB, IL – A retirement reception for Western Illinois University Broadcasting and Journalism Professor Sam Edsall will be held from 3-5 p.m. Friday, May 6 in the University Union Lincoln room.

Edsall joined the faculty at Western as an instructor in 1989. He received his bachelor's degree in mass communication from the State University of New York (SUNY) in 1986, his master's degree in mass communication from Miami University in Ohio and his MFA in computer graphics design from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

In addition to teaching entry level and upper division courses in television production, with certification training on Final Cut Pro, Edsall also teaches computer graphics and animation for television and online journalism.

"Sam has been a key member of our faculty since his arrival," said William "Buzz" Hoon, chair of the WIU Department of Broadcasting and Journalism. "His knowledge about video production is only surpassed by his love for teaching others. Sam is retiring at the top of his 'game' - receiving national awards for his production skills for the last two years. We will miss all that he does for our department."

Edsall is a member and an officer in the Broadcast Educator's Association and an advisor for the National Broadcasting Society.

The same evening, beginning at 5:30 p.m., the Department of Broadcasting and Journalism Scholarship Banquet will be held at the Spoon River College Outreach Center. Reservations are $20 per person and can be made by calling (309) 298-1098.
