MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University's Career Development Center and its Peer Career Advisors recently awarded Macomb's Sports Corner @ 124 its Outstanding Employer Award. Sports Corner has received this honor by continuously hiring Western students to be a part of the organization.

WIU's Career Development Center has supported individuals in giving them the opportunity to recognize their career aspirations with opportunities such as workshops, partnerships with employers and faculty/staff members and individual appointments to ensure a successful transition between college and professional careers. The center also helps current students, beginning when they are freshmen, in establishing career goals and creating a plan to achieve them.

"We are looking to give students a better opportunity for success post-graduation," said Renee Sprock, Career Development Center assistant director.

Through the Career Development Center's continuous success, the Peer Career Advisors program was established in Fall 2014. This program gave students the opportunity to engage in developmental leadership experiences and further their understanding of career development. Since its creation, the program has given 12 students the opportunity to become Peer Advisors.

The Peer Career Advisors have recruitment information at the activities fair each semester and also at the Career Development Center, located on the first floor of Memorial Hall.

The Peer Career Advisors are continuously looking for organizations in Macomb that hire WIU students in order to be recognized for their achievements through WIU and local relationships.

For more information on the Peer Career Advisors program, contact Patrick Kelly at PR-Kelly@wiu.edu.
