WIU: Who We Are, What We Do

Behind the bricks and mortar, there are the people of Western Illinois University and the Macomb community.

Who I Am: My name is Kristen Conrad and I'm from Macomb. I'm married to Craig Conrad, who received a bachelor's degree and an MBA from Western. He is currently the chair of the Department of Marketing and Management. I am a second generation WIU graduate, earning my bachelor's in 1991. My mother, Kay Derry, is a graduate of WIU with a master's in dietetics. My father, Richard Derry, owns Car Care Center in Macomb. I've lived in Macomb all but 10 years of my life.

I would define myself as a motivated, energetic, hard working business owner and a very proud mother of two young men, Bryce and Graham.

What I Do: I am the owner of Make Fit Happen on the Macomb Square. We offer personal training and group fitness classes specializing in TRX Suspension Training. I hold an American Council on Exercise certification in Personal Training and a certification in TRX. My love is teaching people how to become fit and healthy and to make this their lifelong priority.

Why I Love WIU: WIU has been in my backyard most of my life. It has provided an education for many members of my immediate and extended family. My husband has been a student, educator and administrator at my hometown university. As my sons grew up, they were exposed to music, sports and educational experiences at Western. My son, Graham, is currently a freshman marketing major and is on the Men's Leatherneck Golf Team. WIU has touched almost every part of my life.
