MACOMB, IL — Western Illinois University Archives will host "A Taste of Archives," an intimate evening of Scandinavian history, culture and dining, at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 16 on the Leslie F. Malpass Library sixth floor.

Jeff Hancks, WIU archivist and professor, recently returned from a yearlong sabbatical spent in Danish folk schools. Hancks will discuss western Illinois' Scandinavian history and his experience in Danish folk schools.

Hancks participated in educational exchange through Western's University Libraries and Center for International Studies. While Hancks and his family were in Rødding, Denmark, Signe and Jens Horstmann (from Denmark) and their daughters traveled to Macomb to live, learn and work for a year. (Read more about the Hostmanns' experience at Beyond the Bell Tower (https://wiurelations.wordpress.com/2016/06/29/scholar-swap/)).

A five-course Scandinavian meal will be served, with options including pork loin, crispy salmon or vegetarian cheese pie, and be accompanied by a Swedish Mule cocktail, as well as a cash bar.

To purchase tickets, $50 per person, contact University Libraries Director of Development Suzanna Woodward by Friday, July 8 at S-Woodward@wiu.edu or (309) 298-2356.
