MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University Office Manager Christine Staley, of the WIU Department of Psychology, has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for August.

Staley was hired as a secretary II in the Business Advising Center in January 2006, and in June 2006, she was promoted to secretary IV/office support specialist in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures. In October 2012, she was promoted to office manager in kinesiology, and in February 2016, she was reassigned to her current position.

According to her nominator, Staley "has emerged as a godsend to the psychology department."

"She is organized, efficient and truly a pleasure to work with," the nominator said. "She always seems to have a nice thing to say to someone. She is a consummate professional at what she does."

Staley is said to perform her job with a smile on her face, and since her arrival, students and faculty have noticed the character of the office has changed.

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Connie Lincoln at CM-Lincoln@wiu.edu.
