MACOMB, IL – An exhibition of artwork by Western Illinois University Professor of Photography Jenny Knavel opened this week and will run through Friday, Sept. 16 at the University Art Gallery.

A reception will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25 at the gallery. Knavel will speak at 5:15 p.m.

Knavel said she is "inspired by and attracted to abraded surfaces."

"The natural world provides a wealth of inspiration for design and pattern," said Knavel. "The work merges one of the most traditional American art forms with the impressive and exciting technology of the digital era. Utilizing Photoshop and digital cameras, I create invented patterns and simulated textures with computers. My designs are printed onto cotton fabric, using large-format ink-jet printers. The fabric is then cut and pieced together into intuitively constructed compositions."

The exhibition is funded, in part, by a Summer Stipend Grant, awarded through the WIU Office of Special Projects.
