MACOMB, IL - The Western Illinois University Community Music School will soon start its fall private lessons, adult piano class, family music classes and youth string orchestra.

New this year is the Honors Musicianship Certificate Program for junior and senior high school-aged musicians, which offers classes in music theory, history and ear training, as well as seminars by professional musicians and special performance classes. Participating students will also perform in two recitals as a culmination of the certificate program.

This program is designed to prepare students for music study at the college level, or help students looking for an enriching experience to better their musicianship. Classes will begin in September and registration will be available on the Community Music School webpage soon.

This year, the school will continue its successful "Recreational Music Making" adult piano program. Designed for adult beginners, this class piano program focuses on student goals and uses a flexible curriculum.

Classes will take place in the piano lab in Browne Hall at the WIU School of Music and registration is open online at wiu.edu/communitymusicschool.

CMS is also continuing its Family Music Class for pre-school aged children and their parents. The Community Music School program offers musical playtime activities and teaches parents and children how to sing together in class and at home.

Other opportunities at the Community Music School include private lessons for guitar, voice, flute, organ and piano. The string orchestra program will also be offered for experienced string students.
Registration for the programs is available online at wiu.edu/communitymusicschool.
