WIU Professor to Perform on Chicago Symphony Orchestra Tour

MACOMB, IL – When the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) heads off on its 33rd European tour in January, Western Illinois University Assistant Professor of Music John McMurtery will be among the performers.

McMurtery, who plays the flute, will also join the orchestra for several concerts this fall and for the three-week European tour.

"It is a great honor and a thrilling opportunity to join Maestro Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony, performing in some of the most prestigious halls in Europe," said McMurtery. "I am also looking forward to working with students in master classes because of the enriching cultural exchange such a setting provides."

The trip mark's the CSO's 60th international tour, which will include 11 concerts from Jan. 13-27 in Paris; Hamburg; Aalborg, Denmark; Milan; Vienna; Baden-Baden and Frankfurt. The orchestra is directed by Music Director Riccardo Muti.

In addition to the full orchestra performances, CSO musicians will lead music master classes for music students and give community chamber performances in the tour cities in programs supported by the Negaunee Music Institute at the CSO.
