MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- Western Illinois University students ... mark your calendars for Oct. 1. Changes to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are underway beginning that day.

According to Jessica Flogaites, associate director of financial aid at WIU, students will be able to submit their 2017-18 FAFSA beginning Oct. 1 (previously, the date to submit was Jan. 1 of each year). Flogaites explained that students and their families will report their 2015 income when filing the application.

"We recommend that students complete the 2017-18 FAFSA on Oct. 1 in order to maximize their aid eligibility," Flogaites added.

In addition, WIU students who file their 2017-18 FAFSA on Oct. 1 will be entered to win a $200 book award for the Fall 2017 semester. Fifty students will win.

The FAFSA can be completed online at www.fafsa.gov.
