Interviews for the Interim Director of School of Distance Learning, International Studies and Outreach

MACOMB, IL — Three internal candidates will interview this week for the interim director of Western Illinois University's School of Distance Learning, International Studies and Outreach. Former executive director Rick Carter retired last month after 27 years of service at WIU.

Candidates include Paul Schlag, associate director of the Centennial Honors College and assistant chair, Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Administration (RPTA), Thursday, Sept. 15; Jeffrey Hancks, Florence and Lillian Baxter Snyder Professor of Regional and Icarian Studies and coordinator of Archives and Special Collections, Thursday, Sept. 15; and Heather McIlvaine-Newsad, professor of anthropology, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Friday, Sept. 16.

Open meetings will be held from 11 a.m.-noon (Schlag) and 3:30-4:30 p.m. (Hancks) Sept. 15 in Horrabin Hall 83 and 44, respectively, and via videoconference to the Quad Cities Complex room 2203 (Schlag) and 2108 (Hancks), and from 1-2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, (McIlvaine-Newsad) in Horrabin 83 and QC Complex 2203.

Schlag has served as associate director of the Honors College since August 2014 and as assistant chair of the RPTA department from 2012-2013. He joined the WIU RPTA department as an associate professor in 2005. He received his Ph.D. and a master's degree from the University of Georgia, a master's degree from the University of Colorado and his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University.

Hancks has served as the Snyder Professor and coordinator of Archives and Special Collections since 2005. He has also served as the interim director of development for University Libraries (2006-2007). He received his doctorate from Northern Illinois University, master's degrees from University of Wisconsin-Madison and Western Illinois University, and his bachelor's degree from North Park University.

McIlvaine-Newsad has served in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology since 2000. She served as an assistant professor from 2000-03, associate professor from 2004-09 and was promoted to professor in 2009. She received her doctorate from the University of Florida, her master's degree from Ohio University and her bachelor's degree from Denison University.
