WIU Homeland Security Research Program Lecture Series Set for Oct. 20 and Nov. 18

MACOMB, IL — The Western Illinois University School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration (LEJA) will host the annual Homeland Security Research Program lecture series next week and in November with two lectures featuring guest presenters. Both presentations are open free to the public.

Junaid Afeef, director of the Targeted Violence Prevention Program, Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority, will deliver the first lecture from 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20 in Morgan Hall 101A. Afeef will discuss community-led efforts to combat violent extremism and the role of law enforcement.

James Joseph, director of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA), will deliver the second lecture in the 2016 series from 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 in Stipes Hall 121. Joseph will discuss the role of IEMA in general and in the homeland security space, in particular.
