MACOMB, IL — The Western Illinois University Leslie F. Malpass Library, well known for its abundant greenery, is hosting a plant sale from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, Oct. 25-27. The sale includes many of Malpass Library's plants and will be held in the staff lounge on the basement floor of the building. Proceeds will go toward resources for University Libraries and the development of library programs, and all sales are cash only.

University Libraries Gardener Rebecca Fross said the approximately 200 plants for sale will include such varieties as the wax privet (Peperomia glabella) and grape/oak leaf ivy (Cissus rhombifolia or "Ellen Danica").

Prices range from $3-15 per plant. Most hanging baskets will be sold for $6-7. There will also be container plants, such as rubber tree plants and corn plants, ranging in height from one to five feet. A printed sheet describing basic care of each plant will be available, as well.

"The thing about plants is they grow and multiply, and you end up with more than you started with," said Outreach Librarian Christina Norton.

According to Norton, library personnel are looking to reduce the number of plants and create more space in the building.
