Dads' Day at WIU Oct. 22

MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University will host Dads' Day Saturday, Oct. 22.

Dads, grandfathers, uncles or brothers are invited campus for a day filled with activities designed to accommodate relatives and their students.

This year's schedule includes:

• 8:30 a.m. - Fallen Soldiers 5K Run/Walk, Spencer Student Recreation Center – The event benefits the Fallen Soldiers 5K Scholarship Fund, which supports veterans and service members. Pre-registration is $35 and can be completed at wiu.edu/FallenSoldiers.

• 10 a.m. – Make a Difference Day, University Union, Lamoine Room – Western's All Volunteer Effort is participating in the largest single day of volunteering. Opportunities for service are available around campus and in the Macomb community.

Transportation and lunch will be provided. Check-in at the Lamoine Room begains at 10 a.m.

• Noon-5 p.m. – Beerfest, The Forum in downtown Macomb – The eighth annual event will feature sampling of more than 60 craft beers, including those from more than 10 area breweries in attendance. For additional information, visit wiu.edu/cofac/pas/beerfest.php.

• 1 p.m. – Dads' Day Football Skills Challenge, Vince Grady Field – The event will test passing, catching and kicking skills, with prizes for the winners.

• 6 p.m. – Leatherneck Football, Hanson Field – The Leathernecks will take on North Dakota State. Tailgating begins five hours prior to kick-off in Q-Lot. All WIU students will be admitted free with a valid student identification card. Tickets are available at bit.ly/2elMsdA or by calling (309) 298-1190.

• 7-11 p.m. – Super Smash Bros. 4 Doubles Tournament, University Union Lamoine Room – The Macomb Esports Association will run the tournament for fathers and their children to battle against other families.
Consoles, controllers and games will be provided.

• 7:30 p.m. – One Act Festival, Simpkins Theatre – Tickets are $5 at the door.
