MACOMB, IL – Two artists, who began their relationship at Western Illinois University, will display their art at the University's Art Gallery.

George and Renee Mavigliano will exhibit "Celebrating a Shared Life in Art" at the gallery through Thursday, March 9. A reception in their honor will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. March 9 at the gallery.

Renee chose WIU because of its "small school charm." George received his bachelor's degree in art from WIU in 1964. He went on to receive his master's degree in art history from Northern Illinois University, and Renee finished her undergraduate degree in art education there.

The couple married in August 1966 and moved to Chicago. Renee taught art at Morton West High School, and George taught in the humanities department of Wright Community College.

The couple moved on to Southern Illinois University in 1970, where George eventually retired from the dean's office in the College of Communications and Fine Arts in 1997. Renee completed her Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in 1985, while raising three children. She later retired from teaching at John A. Logan College in 2008.

The couple now lives in Carterville, IL, where they operate a bookstore and gallery.
