MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Women's Center raised $1,711 for charity during the February performances of "The Vagina Monologues."

The play, by Eve Ensler, was part of the global V-Day movement, used to raise money to support organizations and efforts to end violence against women.

The WIU Women's Center has produced an Ensler play each year for more than 16 years. Ten percent of the money raised by the ticket and merchandise sales for this year's event will be donated to this year's Spotlight campaign of the V-Day organization to end violence against women in the workplace. The balance of the proceeds will benefit the domestic violence and sexual assault programs of the Western Illinois Regional Council (WIRC).

WIRC-Victim Services provides a variety of programming and educational opportunities for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and other forms of interpersonal violence in the Macomb community and the surrounding area. The agency's services include free counseling, legal and medical advocacy and prevention education, as well as shelter and other assistance for those trying to leave abusive situations.

Individuals in need of assistance can call the 24-hour hotline at (309) 837-5555.
