VPSS Interviews Scheduled

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- Three candidates have been selected to interview Western Illinois University vice president for student services (VPSS) position.

The candidates include Jason Woods, associate vice president for student services at WIU (Monday-Tuesday, April 17-18); Ronald Williams, interim vice president for student services and assistant vice president for academic affairs at WIU (Wednesday-Thursday, April 26-27) and David Braverman, interim associate vice president of student affairs and dean of students at California State University, Dominguez Hills (Monday-Tuesday, May 1-2).

An open session will be held with Woods from 8-8:50 a.m. Tuesday, April 18 in the University Union Sandburg Theatre and from 11-11:50 April 18 in Riverfront Hall 103-104 on the WIU-QC campus. An open session will be held with Williams at 8-8:50 a.m. Thursday, April 27 in the =Union Sandburg Theatre and from 11-11:50 a.m. April 27 in Riverfront Hall 103-104 on the WIU-QC campus. An open session will be held with Braverman from 8-8:50 a.m. Tuesday, May 2 in the Union Sandburg Theatre and from 11-11:50 a.m. in Riverfront Hall 103-104 on the WIU-QC campus.

Woods has served as the associate vice president for student services at WIU since October 2015. Previously, he had served as the dean of admission and financial planning at Loras College in Dubuque, IA from October 2014 to October 2015. He has also served as dean of campus student affairs and support services at Loras (August-July 2014), and as director of campus student affairs and admissions (July 2012-October 2014) and director of admissions responsibilities (October 2006-June 2014) at Ashford University in Clinton, IA. Woods also was the associate director of admissions for diversity recruitment (August-September 2006), assistant director of admissions (August 2003-August 2006), diversity recruitment coordinator (August 2000-August 2006) and admissions counselor (August 2000-August 2003) at Wartburg College in Waverly, IA.

Woods received his bachelor's degree in public relations from Loras College, his master's degree in post secondary education and student affairs from the University of Northern Iowa and his doctoral degree in higher education and organizational change from Benedictine University.

Williams has served the interim vice president for student services at WIU since January 2016 and as the assistant vice president for academic affairs at WIU since July 2008. He is also an associate professor in the Department of Educational Studies. Previously, Williams served as the director for post-secondary education at the Tennessee Higher Education Commission in Nashville, TN from November 2005-July 2008. He also served as the assistant director for post-secondary education (August 2002-November 2005) and educational program specialist (July 2001-August 2002) for the Tennessee Higher Education Commission; and as a financial aid counselor at Lane College in Jackson, TN (July 1998-2000)

Williams received his doctorate and his master's degree in educational administration from Tennessee State University and his bachelor's degree in business administration from Lane College.

Braverman has served as interim associate vice president of student affairs and dean of students at California State University, Dominguez Hills since 2015. Previously, he was a presidential fellow at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD in 2015, and served as interim dean of students at Community College of Philadelphia in 2014. Braverman has also served as vice president for student affairs and dean of students at Springfield (MA) College (2005-2014); dean of students at Texas A & M University in Kingsville (2002-2005); associate vice president for student affairs at California State University, Sacramento (1998-2002); dean of students at Culver-Stockton College, Canton, MO (1995-1998); assistant dean at University of Richmond (VA) (1990-1995); and assistant director of residence life at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA (1988-1990).

He earned his doctorate and master's degree in higher education administration from the University of Iowa and his bachelor's degree in biological sciences from the University of Missouri.

The vice president of student services (VPSS) reports to the president and presents student concerns and issues to the Board of Trustees, the president, and other vice presidents. He/she works closely with the president's staff and is the main resource on matters related to student activity fees. The VPSS provides direction and leadership for the delivery of student services in the areas of admissions, health center, campus recreation, career services, cultural centers, disability resources, electronic student services, financial aid, transit, student activities, student assistance and parent services, student development and orientation, judicial programs, legal services, publications, counseling center, golf course, housing and dining services, university union, childcare and the women's center. The VPSS represents the president on various student service concerns within and outside the University and is expected to demonstrate community involvement and serve as the chief spokesperson on student services to various boards, agencies, organizations, constituencies and publics. In addition, he/she is responsible for representing administrative viewpoints and positions to students in general and specifically to major student organizations. The vice president of student services is responsible for Auxiliary Facilities System budgets and operations as well as budgets, operations, and programs of student services departments funded by student fees and general revenue funds. He/she is responsible for budget planning, preparation, implementation, review and reporting in the area of student services, as well as long-range planning, resource procurement, resource allocation and resource management in student services. The VPSS is responsible for the overall supervision and administration of personnel in student services, student services program development and administration of provisions of the Code of Student Conduct. The VPSS also has the opportunity to teach in the College Student Personnel program and hold adjunct faculty rank, based on qualifications.
