WIU CLEC to Host Open House April 20-21

MACOMB, IL – The Children's Literature Examination Center (CLEC) at Western Illinois University will host an open house Thursday-Friday, April 20-21 in Horrabin Hall 1.

The event, from 3-6 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, is open to teachers, school administrators, librarians, parents and anyone interested in children's literature.

The center holds an impressive collection of books published from 2015-2017, and includes most of the current book award winners. The collections will be available for review at the open house. The collection includes literature in a range of genres: fiction, nonfiction, traditional literature, picture books and poetry from most of the major publishers of books from children and young adults. The collection is non-circulating, but is open year-round for anyone with an interest in seeing what is new in children's and young adult literature.

The CLEC Open House will also feature the Lois and Lowell Lueck Collection, which showcases selected books of excellence in literature. Lowell Lueck, former director of Institutional Research and Planning at WIU, retired in 1993. He and his wife Lois, a former high school guidance counselor, established an endowment through Western's Foundation in memory of Ardeth and Leonard Grove to promote new ideas and methods for the improvement and teaching of reading in the Western Illinois region.

Registration for the open house is not required, and refreshments will be served. Participants attending on Thursday afternoon can park in the lot south of Horrabin Hall (across from the Leslie F. Malpass Library) after 5 p.m. Friday participants should pick up visitor parking permits at Mowbray Hall.
