Donald Scharfenberg Obituary

MACOMB, IL – Graveside services for Western Illinois University Art Professor Emeritus Donald F. Scharfenberg will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2 at Oakwood Cemetery.
Scharfenberg passed away Sunday, July 30 in Macomb. He is survived by his wife, Peggy, his sons, Jon and Tom, his daughter, Jill, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
After joining the WIU faculty in 1961, Scharfenberg continued his love of teaching students how to understand and appreciate the need for art until his retirement in June 1993. His artwork was also featured in numerous exhibits.
Scharfenberg received his bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University, his master's degree from the University of Illinois and his doctoral degree from Illinois State University. Before coming to Western, he was a teacher at the National College of Education, Evanston and then in the Rockford Public Schools.
