MACOMB, IL - The College of Fine Arts and Communication at Western Illinois University will celebrate the upcoming solar eclipse from 12:30-2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21 on the lawn between Browne Hall and Memorial Hall.

Themed music and snacks will be available, and the first 100 students will receive free solar eclipse viewing glasses. The eclipse will be at its height at approximately 1:20pm. WIU students are invited to join in this free event.

On Aug. 21, an eclipse will cross the entire country, coast-to-coast, for the first time since 1918. Weather permitting, the entire continent will have the opportunity to view an eclipse as the moon passes in front of the sun, casting a shadow on Earth's surface, according to NASA. In Macomb, the sun will be 95.2 percent obscured.

The College of Fine Arts and Communication reminds everyone that it is unsafe to view the solar eclipse without the proper safety glasses.
