Celebrating Town & Gown 2017

MACOMB, IL -- Celebrating Town and Gown, the annual signature Western Illinois University and Macomb community event hosted by WIU President Jack Thomas and Macomb Mayor Mike Inman, will kick-off this year's WIU Homecoming activities Thursday, Sept. 14. The Inaugural Macomb Alumni and Friends Golf Outing will continue the celebration Friday, Sept. 15.

The 11th annual Celebrating Town and Gown event will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at The Forum in Macomb, with a short program at 6:15 p.m. All Macomb and WIU community members are welcome to attend. Casual attire is welcome.

Thomas and Inman will highlight the past year's accomplishments and WIU Alumni Director Amy Spelman will announce the 2017 Honorary Alumni Award and Town & Gown Award recipients. The Honorary Alumni Award, given annually since 1994, is presented to an individual who is not a WIU graduate but who has provided exceptional service to the WIU community. The Town & Gown Award, given annually since 2007, is presented to an individual who may or may not be a WIU graduate and has provided exceptional service in bringing WIU and the Macomb communities together.

In addition, this year's the final installment of 27 newly-completed Rocky on Parade bulldogs will be unveiled during the event. The statues will be a part of the 2017 WIU Homecoming Parade Saturday, Sept. 30 and installed at their final locations throughout the community and on the University campus following Homecoming Weekend. The cost for Celebrating Town and Gown is $20 per person.

The inaugural Macomb Alumni & Friends Golf Outing, presented by the WIU Alumni Association, will begin with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15 at Gold Hills Golf Club, west of Macomb. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The event, which is a four-person scramble, includes proximity games and prizes, drinks, a social and dinner. Hole/flag sponsorships are also available. The cost for the golf outing, social and dinner is $60 per person ($10 per person for the social and dinner only).
