MACOMB, IL – The second annual honey harvest at Western Illinois University's Horn Field Campus will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19.

The event is being put on by WIU Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Administration (RPTA) Chair Dan Yoder, the Student Recreation Society (SRS) and the Horn Environmental Learning Project (HELP).

The event is open free to the public. Due to the nature of the activity, the activity times are subject to change. Tentatively, removal of the honey from the hive begins at 6 p.m., followed by spinning honey out of the honeycomb at 6:30 p.m. and straining and bottling the honey at 7:30 p.m.

The event is a chance to see the honeybees up close. Jars of fresh HFC honey will also be available for purchase.

In case of rain, the event will be held Tuesday, Sept. 26.
